SFM maintains medical search data for the client to use when searching for medication and products. Updated search data is automatically downloaded to the client everytime a new version is relased by Direktoratet for medisinske produkter (DMP). The search data is stored locally on the clients using SFM (local cache).  SFM will, upon a patient being opened check that the local cache is populated with search data and check if the version matches the version known by the server. If the local cache is empty or if the client does not have the latest data, the client will make a request to the server to update search data.

Important: Nightly jobs to clear cache will result in the need for downloading search data to the client every day. This process takes between 2-3 seconds to 2/3 minutes depending on internet connection and the user will not be able to search for new medications or products while this process is ongoing. The user might experience reduced performance due to the amount of data that's being downloaded.
