Introduction to FHIR

SFM Basis api and SFM Datashare Api are FHIR apis.

Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR) is a web-based standard from HL7 designed to exchange healthcare information across systems.

You need basic knowledge of FHIR to understand documentation of SFM and to integrate with SFM Basis api and SFM Datashare Api.

Please refer to FHIR documentation from HL7: FHIR v4.0.1.

For suggested starting areas, please also be sure you understand:

  • RESTful API

  • Search

  • SFM uses Profiling and Extensions: Extensibility

  • Extended operations
    Some resource follow the RESTful guide above with general operations on the resources. E.g. Organization, Person and Practitioner. However, operations for retreiving and submitting a patients medication information (SFM Basis api) are based on FHIR extended operations.
