Sentral forskrivningsmodul (SFM) is integrated into the journal system and provides healthcare personnel with access to prescribe and order medications.
SFM is an offer to suppliers of electronic patient record systems (EPJ) to ensure quality and easier management of medication information.
SFM will meet the needs of various user groups, and can be used by healthcare professionals working in, among others, general practitioner practices, contracted specialist practices, emergency rooms, municipal nursing and care sectors (home care, municipal acute day unit (KAD) and nursing homes), dental clinics and health centers.

SFM will handle all communication with Kjernejournal (KJ) and theReseptformidleren (RF) to support e-prescription functionality, and facilitate the flow of drug information between different systems. SFM is therefore an important tool in the introduction of the "Patient's Medication List" (PLL), where the entire health service interacts to create and update the patient's actual medication use.
When integrating with SFM, there are two exclusively alternative integration patterns:
SFM Full
SFM Basis

SFM Full
SFM Full gives you access to a medication module made for the norwegian e-prescription chain. The EPJ will integrate SFM's user interface into its own solution, and SFM will appear as an integrated medication module in the EPJ. The systems will exchange relevant information in the background via the SFM Data Sharing API, to provide the EPJ with structured data.
SFM Full version is used by GPs, medical specialists, dentists and the municipal health service.
SFM full will need a web environment to reside inside, namely an IFRAME. For desktop applications there is a range of components available to provide this, for web application you simply define an Iframe for SFM. In very few words, the SFM clients are loaded somewhere from *.forskivning.no depending on the version you are running. The SFM client will be initialized with a session created by you. More on that later.
Before you are able start a session you will need to create "your space" in SFM, or more precisely you customers journal space. In SFM terms we name that an SFM instance. The details on this creation are common to SFM Full and SFM Basis and are described in the page create new instance in SFM.
SFM Basis
SFM Basis is dedicated for major vendors, aiming for making a full blown medication module, or simply integrating existing module to norwegian e-prescription.
The API is set up to provide the SFM compilation of medication data from Reseptformidleren (RF) and Kjernejournal (KJ) to major healtchare systems. The API is providing FHIR operations and resources, and the access control is based on HelseID. The SFM Basis was designed from start to provide functionality for Pasientens Legemiddelliste (PLL) as well as supporting existing prescription functionality.
SFM Basis has the same (REST) operations on Organization, Person and Practitioner as the SFM Full, and provides FHIR Operations for retrieval of data from RF and KJ and submitting updated information.
